Marie Macklin honoured with prestigious Belfast Ambassador Medal

Marie Macklin CBE will receive one of the first ever Belfast Ambassador Medals when she is celebrated at a major event today (Friday 30 November).

The medals, which recognise outstanding individuals who are helping to build Belfast, are being presented as part of the Belfast International Homecoming event taking place in the city this week.

This is the inaugural year of the Belfast Homecoming Ambassador Medal which will be presented to 50 members of Belfast’s global family who have gone the extra mile for the city and local heroes who are building international bridges to the Irish diaspora.

The fifth annual Homecoming event will see a host of international diaspora join with local thought leaders and business trailblazers in working to boost the peace through economic development.

Delegates from countries such as the US, Spain and Scotland, will help shape discussions on progressing prosperity whilst forging relationships. The major theme for the three days of discussions will be entrepreneurialism, using smart talent, regeneration and boosting tourism.

Marie Macklin CBE, Founder and Executive Chair of The HALO Urban Regeneration Company, said: “It as an honour and a privilege to be one of the first ever recipients of a Belfast Ambassador Medal. The Belfast International Homecoming is a fantastic opportunity for the global Belfast family to join in the discussion about building a better Belfast.

“I am extremely proud to have been recognised with this medal as whenever I think of Belfast I reminded of my brave Grannie Maggie McBride who sailed across the Straits of Moyle to Scotland in the 1800s.

“Every time I visit this great city it always strikes me how much the Irish diaspora inspires new approaches to economic transformation and stimulates innovative and entrepreneurial business.

“I recognise that Belfast communities are its beating heart and I believe Northern Ireland’s capital is the perfect place to launch the next HALO Urban Regeneration concept.
